NEWS FROM DUFOUR SEMINARS

Upcoming Hazardous Waste Management Seminar Based on Real World Experiences

September 2007

Environmental attorney James T. Dufour teaches his seminars with the same intensity as when he represents clients in high profile prosecutions.  For example, just as his training business Dufour Seminars is about to take Hazardous and Universal Waste Management Training and Update 2007 on the road to six locations in the state beginning on November 9, Dufour is engaged in the defense of hazardous waste violations alleged against Chico Scrap Metal, Inc. at four sites by the Butte County District Attorney.  Thus far, as reported in the Chico Enterprise Record,  Dufour has been successful in persuading Judge Thomas Kelly of Butte County Superior Court to deny the County's petition for a temporary restraining order, and obtaining a stipulated or negotiated order approved by the court that will allow Chico Scrap Metal to continue its recycling business while addressing environmental concerns, away from the spotlight of litigation.

Complicated But You've Got To Know

The issues involved in this waste characterization case involve application of Title 22 hazardous waste regulations which anyone who generates a waste should understand and be able to implement for their own wastes and operations.  It's not a guessing game or a determination to be left to service firms.  In a similar case in Sacramento Superior Court, Dufour teamed leading defense attorney William Portanova to defend a local metal finisher who was acquitted on all hazardous waste felony charges by proving that hazardous materials are not waste.  Dufour's Hazardous and Universal Waste Management Training and Update 2007 explains in understandable terms using examples of forensic evidence from real cases how to properly characterize a waste and if hazardous, how to manage it according to the regulations.  Better yet - he explains what to do with non-hazardous and universal wastes to get "Best Deals" in waste management.

Special Deal - "Beat the Expert"

As a special feature for this year's Hazardous and Universal Waste Management Training and Update 2007, Dufour will challenge attendees to "beat the expert" by sending in information on a particularly troublesome, expensive or large volume waste stream to see if he can't improve the waste's characterization or its management (cost).
